Did you know that Yodate in Gunma Prefecture has eight waterfalls, each with a different type? These waterfalls are collectively called “Yodate 8 Falls”. Among the eight waterfalls, the most famous one is Ozen Falls. In fact, all waterfalls other than Ozen Falls flow into unexplored areas deep in the mountains, so even though their names are famous, it is said that people who have actually seen them are quite rare. So, what kind of waterfalls are there in Yodate 8 Falls? This time, we will introduce in detail about Yodate 8 Waterfalls in Gunma Prefecture, a trip to see eight spectacular waterfalls flowing deep in the mountains.
①Yodate 8 waterfall What is it?
Yodate 8 Falls is the collective name for eight waterfalls located in the Serate area of Nakanojo Town, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture. To be more precise, there are seven waterfalls on the Yaishizawa River, a tributary of the Shirasuna River, and one waterfall on the Yodao River.
❶Yodate8 waterfallIntroducing 8 waterfalls?
The eight waterfalls that make up Yodate 8 Falls are as follows. These are Ozen Falls, Datta Falls, Haco Falls, Kyunai Falls, Fushigi Falls, Ido Falls, Sastuzen Falls, and Sen Falls. However, out of the eight waterfalls, there are two that can be easily visited: Ozen Falls and Sen Falls. The reason is that the other six waterfalls are located in unexplored areas that are difficult for people to access, making them difficult to visit. However, if you are prepared for trekking, you can also visit the other six waterfalls.
There are also promenades and stairs along the way, so you can visit all eight waterfalls by walking along the promenade. By the way, Yodate 8 waterfall is located in a place where you can stop by when going to Kusatsu.
➁【Daisen Falls】 A waterfall that can be accessed nearby from the parking lot‼︎ ︎
Ozen Falls is one of the 8 waterfalls on Yodate. It is located at the downstream of the seven waterfalls that flow into the Yaishizawa River. The drop is 20m, and a direct waterfall is a waterfall that falls all at once from the mouth of the waterfall to the basin. You can see the impressive fall. It is a spectacular sight as a large amount of water falls into the basin at once.
❶If you want to visit Ozen Falls.
Ozen Falls is the most recommended waterfall among the 8 Yodate waterfalls. If you want to visit Ozen Falls, enter from the Ozen Falls entrance located at Takimi Drive-in along National Route 405. After walking along the gentle promenade for about 100m, Ozen Falls will appear in front of you. When taking a tour, you can view the waterfall from the viewing platform that has been set up. If you follow the promenade along the viewing platform, you will be in front of the waterfall basin, so you can see Ozen Falls from the front.
❷What are Tengu’s footprints?
Tengu footprints are the rocks near Daisen Falls. There is a depression about 2m long and 1.5m wide on the rock surface. The image is of footprints stuck to the rocks, and you can see them from the road leading to the terraced waterfall.
③【Datta waterfall】 Climb 706 steps to arrive‼︎
Datta Falls is a waterfall located upstream of Ozen Falls. This is the second waterfall from the downstream on the Yaishizawa River. The drop is 35m, and the waterfall type is a stepped waterfall. A tiered waterfall is a waterfall that has tiers in its flow. Datta Falls is a two-tiered waterfall, meaning there are two waterfalls in one waterfall.

❶Route for sightseeing Datta Falls.
Datta Falls is the second most recommended waterfall for sightseeing after Ozen Falls. However, the road to Datta Falls is not easy. If you are sightseeing in Datta, start from the Ozen Falls entrance, climb a promenade with poor footing and 706 steep steps to reach the waterfall. For a healthy adult, it takes about 15 minutes to walk. The advantage of sightseeing is that there is a viewing platform in front of the waterfall, so you can experience the spectacular view of the tiered waterfall of Datta Falls from a close distance. Please note that the footing is very poor, so sightseeing may be difficult unless you have strong legs and are confident in your health.
④What is Sen Falls?
Sentaki is one of the eight waterfalls in Japan, and is located on a different river than the other seven waterfalls. Sen Falls is located on the Yodao River that flows through the Serate district. The waterfall has a height of 17m and is a branched waterfall. A bifurcated waterfall is a waterfall that splits into several parts when it hits a rock along the way. The water is dispersed like a shower. Sen Falls is easily accessible from the Sen Falls boardwalk parking area.
